About the festival
The 39th Donghae Mulung Festival will be held for four days from September 17 to 20, 2026, at Donghae Wellbeing Sports Town and Donghae Culture and Arts Center. This festival is a representative traditional cultural festival of Donghae-si. This year's theme is 'Unified Citizens, Newly Thriving Donghae-si', aiming to expand citizen participation, revitalize the local economy, and create a cultural tourism festival that harmonizes tradition and modernity. The festival consists of Jejeonhaeng events, Gongyeonhaeng events, Minsokmunhwayesulhaeng events, Cheheomhongbohaeng events, and Gihoekhaeng events. Major programs include the Sanshin Ritual and Bountiful Harvest Ritual, opening celebration performances, intergenerational concerts, Donghae Song Festival, Donghae Youth Dance Festival, and performances by local professional artists and the city choir. Additionally, various folk performances will showcase intergenerational and traditional elements through the Navy military band, honor guard performances, the 1st Mountain Brigade special martial arts demonstration, Mangsan Nongak, and Bukpyeong Nindapgyo play. Experience programs will include traditional folk games, workshop experiences, health check-ups, and a children's experience center for traditional games, marine safety, and sports, providing programs that families can enjoy together. A new initiative called 'Donghae Taste One Bite' will allow visitors to taste and vote on representative dishes from local restaurants, and efforts will be made to revitalize the local economy in conjunction with the Donghae Sale Festa. Additionally, the event site will feature local food sales and Pungmul Market, and a Cheongsachorong light tunnel will be created to enhance the traditional festival atmosphere and nighttime attractions. The 39th Donghae Mulung Festival is expected to expand programs for citizens and tourists to participate and enjoy together, allowing them to experience the traditional culture, food, and arts of Donghae-si in one place.
