About the festival
The Hwadojin Festival is a representative historical and cultural festival of Jemulpo-gu in Incheon, held annually to honor and inherit the history and traditions of Hwadojin, a military post established to prepare for foreign invasions during the Joseon Dynasty. As the oldest military festival in Incheon and a representative local festival, the Hwadojin Festival will celebrate its 37th edition this year, taking place over two days from October 16 to 17, 2026, at the North Square of Dongincheon Station and Hwadojin Park. The festival's highlights include an opening ceremony starting with a traditional drum performance, a ceremonial procession led by the military commander, and various official events that reenact historical scenes. Additionally, diverse cultural performances will be showcased, including the musical 'Hwadojin', traditional Korean music breakdancing, traditional Korean a cappella, tightrope walking, traditional performances, Korean music concerts, balloon cinema, magic shows, a Hwadojin concert, historical quizzes, and historical talk concerts. There will also be abundant stages prepared for community participation, including performances by local artists, a children's dance competition, and a singing contest for residents. Spaces for traditional military experiences such as Hwadojin's gatekeeper and the Joseon military examination, as well as traditional play experiences, will be provided.
