About the festival

The 'Dalseong 100 Pianos' is a cultural content representing the region and has established itself as the only one of its kind in the country. The 'Dalseong 100 Pianos' is a representative piano music festival of South Korea held at the historic site of the first piano brought into the country, Samunjin-Naru in Dalseong-gun, Daegu. In March 1900, a piano brought into Samunjin through American missionary Sidebottom was such an unfamiliar Western instrument that it was called 'ghost sound' by the local residents. However, the history of music that began with one piano has now evolved into a grand stage where 100 pianos perform together after more than 100 years. The festival, which started in 2012 as 'Dalseong 100 Years of Welcoming', became 'Dalseong 100 Years of Celebration' in 2013 and continues to provide new musical inspiration every year, encompassing various genres from classical to jazz, pop, and popular music. In particular, performances set against the beautiful Nakdong River and the historical scenery of Samunjin offer a special experience where music, nature, and history harmonize. Dalseong 100 Pianos continues the history of Korean music that began with one piano, transforming Samunjin into a special space where culture and art come alive.
