About the festival

Hwaeamsa Temple, the largest temple from the late Goryeo to early Joseon period with deep ties to the Joseon royal family, has been recognized for its historical value and selected for the 2025 UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, even though only the site remains. A historical and cultural festival will be held where visitors can heal their minds and bodies and learn about historical value, similar to how King Taejo Lee Seong-gye lived a monastic life at Hwaeamsa. The festival will kick off with performances inspired by the royal procession records from the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty, including 'The Royal Procession of King Taejo Lee Seong-gye' and 'Welcoming Ceremony of Yangju Governor', and will feature experience programs such as 'Finding the 8 Secrets of Hwaeamsa Site' and 'Ring the Bronze Gongs', allowing festival visitors to learn and enjoy the Hwaeamsa site. Additionally, various programs such as special performances of intangible heritage, lectures on temple food, and healing concerts are prepared.
