About the festival
The Myeongju Puppet Festival, which started its first session in 2014, is a puppet festival in the Yeongdong region that has been loved by the citizens of Gangneung. It attracts nearly 10,000 visitors each year and has established itself as a representative family festival of the Yeongdong region. Various genres of puppet shows can be enjoyed, including hand puppet shows, paper cup puppet shows, puppet musicals, and shadow puppet shows. Additionally, experience programs and exhibition programs are prepared as side events, allowing children to have diverse experiences. Breaking away from the preconceived notion that puppet shows are solely for children, the festival has selected performances with solid stories and outstanding acting and directing skills, making it a puppet festival that the whole family can enjoy.
