About the festival

The Semiwon Lotus Culture Festival is a representative summer garden culture festival held at Semiwon, located in Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do. Semiwon is a garden surrounded by Paldang Lake on three sides, featuring water and flowers, and holds about 270 species of plants, including traditional Eastern garden styles and aquatic plants. It was designated as Gyeonggi-do's first local garden in June 2019 and has been developed as a space where natural ecology and garden culture can be experienced together. The Lotus Culture Festival is an event centered around the lotus, the representative plant of Semiwon, held during the blooming season of the lotus, featuring various exhibitions, performances, and experience programs. Visitors can appreciate the lotus and aquatic plants arranged throughout the garden and experience the value of garden culture and the beauty of nature through cultural and artistic content and educational experience programs themed around the lotus. The area around Semiwon is known as the location where the practical scholar Jeong Yak-yong installed Baeda-ri on the Namhan River during the late Joseon period, making it a place of historical significance. Additionally, it is equipped with various facilities such as the Yeonkkot Museum, Jangdokdae Fountain, Sehan Pavilion, and Baeda-ri, serving as a complex cultural space where garden culture, history, ecology, and cultural arts can be experienced together.
