About the festival
The "2026 Mokpo Gukgayusan Yahaeng" is a night cultural heritage event hosted and organized by Mokpo-si with the support of the Cultural Heritage Administration and Jeonnam Gwangju Tonghap Teukbyeol-si. The event will take place over three days from October 30 to November 1, 2026, at the Mokpo Modern History Cultural Space, designed to allow participants to experience Mokpo's modern history and cultural heritage at night. Titled 'Modern Times, The Story of Mokpo's Opening 129', the event focuses on the opening of Mokpo, the first self-governing open port city of the Korean Empire in 1897, and the process of forming a modern city. Key cultural heritage sites include the Modern History Museum 1, Modern History Museum 2, Simsang Elementary School, Gyeongdong Cathedral, and Mokpo Jinji, which are historical locations and architectural heritage. The event program consists of viewing and experiential activities linked to night scenery and cultural heritage, traditional cultural performances, and other performances, aimed at conveying the historical value of Mokpo's opening history and modern cultural heritage to the audience.
