About the festival
The Danjong Cultural Festival is a representative local cultural festival of Yeongwol that transforms the spirit of Danjong, the 6th king of Joseon, and the loyal subjects into a celebration. This festival began in 1967 under the name "Danjongje" and changed its name to "Danjong Cultural Festival" starting from the 24th event in 1990, continuing to engage visitors with various experiences. The 58th Danjong Cultural Festival will be held in Yeongwol, where King Danjong's tomb, Jangneung, is located, from April 24 (Friday) to April 26 (Sunday), 2026. This year's Danjong Cultural Festival will feature a variety of events including the Danjong National Ceremony, Danjong Ritual, selection of Queen Jeongsun, arrowroot tug-of-war, experiential activities, participatory events, and performances.
