About the festival
The Gwangmyeong Madang Theater Festival is a performing arts festival where one can enjoy the satire and humor of traditional madang theater, as well as excitement and joy, with a contemporary sensibility. Since its debut in 2024, it has grown in the interest and love of Gwangmyeong citizens, marking its third year this year. High-quality works and skilled performance groups participate, showcasing a variety of performances including madang theater, fusion traditional music, circus, and street performances, along with citizen participation programs that everyone, regardless of age or gender, can enjoy together. Notably, the festival's characteristic is the ability to experience the unique charm of madang theater up close, breaking down the boundaries between the stage and the audience, allowing performers and spectators to breathe together. It is establishing itself as a representative performing arts festival of Gwangmyeong, transforming the area around Gwangmyeong Citizen Stadium into an open performance venue where citizens and artists can laugh, enjoy, and communicate together.
