About the festival
In July 2026, the official World Surf League event 'WSL Siheung Korea Open International Surfing Competition' will be held for three days at 'Wave Park', the largest artificial surfing facility in Asia located in Siheung, South Korea. This competition is the first official qualifying series of the WSL held in the country and is drawing attention from surfing fans worldwide as it is the first-ever competition in an artificial wave pool. The Siheung Wave Park, where the event will take place, boasts an impressive cove length of 2240 meters, accommodating up to 160 athletes and 20,000 spectators simultaneously. Notably, this year will feature the 'QS 6,000' competition, which is a step up from the 'QS 3,000' shortboard event held two years ago. This competition is expected to be the most dynamic precursor to the 2026 Asian Games, with top athletes from 16 countries participating in fierce competition. The event will be broadcast live through terrestrial channels in South Korea, Japan, and Australia. The competition will be divided into men's and women's shortboard (QS 6,000) and men's and women's longboard (LQS 1,000), with awards given to the top four athletes in each category, along with special awards. The event is hosted by Siheung-si, co-organized by the Siheung Sports Council, OBS, and Wave Park, and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Gyeonggi-do, Gyeonggi Provincial Council, Siheung City Council, and the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation.
