About the festival
Since ancient times, our ancestors held rituals to pray for the peace and prosperity of the nation and localities at famous mountains, rivers, and seas. In the case of the sea, during the Joseon Dynasty, rituals were held in places like Incheon, Suncheon, and Gangneung, among which Incheon Dohobu performed rituals at Wondo (Nakseom) to the deity of the West Sea. The ritual held by the local governor of Incheon at the shrine called Wondo Temple, established in Wondo during the Joseon Dynasty, is known as the Incheon Wondo Temple Ritual, where offerings were made in spring and autumn by gathering the deities of various islands. The 2026 Incheon Wondo Temple Festival & Nakseom Festival is a festival in Michuhol-gu that combines the reenactment of the ritual and a village festival of harmony.
