About the festival
National Designated Scenic Site No. 9, the Mysterious Sea Road of Jindo, is located between Hoedong-ri in Gokun-myeon and Modo-ri in Uisin-myeon, approximately 2 km of sea that reveals itself during the lunar months of February to March when the tide recedes, exposing a path 30 to 40 meters wide. This phenomenon attracts numerous domestic and international tourists to Jindo every year during the festival period, allowing them to enjoy this miraculous moment for about an hour when the sea road is fully revealed. During the festival, Jindo County showcases its brilliant intangible cultural heritage, including Jindo Arirang, Ganggangsullae, Namdo Dulnori, Jindo Sikkimgut, Jindo Dasiraegi, Jindo Mangga, and Jindo Buknori, providing a rich array of sights and experiences to enhance the excitement of visitors. The Mysterious Sea Road of Jindo, connecting Hoedong and Modo, gained worldwide recognition in 1975 when Pierre Landy, the French ambassador to Korea, witnessed this strange phenomenon while visiting the natural monument No. 53, the Jindo Dog, and introduced it in a French newspaper as a modern-day miracle of Moses. In 1996, Japanese pop singer Yoshimi Tendo hit the charts with a song titled 'Jindo Story,' further attracting many Japanese tourists to visit every year.
