About the festival
The Pyeongchang Hyoseok Cultural Festival is a representative autumn cultural tourism festival of South Korea held in Bongpyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon Province. This festival first started in 1999 and is held every September, set against the backdrop of Bongpyeong-myeon, the actual stage of the modern Korean short story masterpiece "When Buckwheat Flowers Bloom" by author Lee Hyo-seok. The main scenery of the festival site features fields of white buckwheat flowers blooming profusely, resembling a sprinkle of salt, allowing visitors to directly experience the natural landscape of Bongpyeong depicted in the novel. Major events include literary activities honoring Lee Hyo-seok's literature, traditional folk games, a local food market, and various cultural and artistic performances involving local residents and artists. Through this, the Pyeongchang Hyoseok Cultural Festival promotes the region's literary assets and traditional rural culture while contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.
