About the festival

The Yeongam Wangin Cultural Festival, which started in 1997, is a representative cultural tourism festival of South Korea with a history of 29 years. It is held every spring against the backdrop of the Wangin Doctor's Historic Site. At the peak of ancient East Asian cultural exchange was Doctor Wangin. The advanced culture and Confucian scriptures of Baekje crossed the Korea Strait to the Japanese archipelago through Wangin, and the teachings he conveyed became the fundamental driving force that sparked the golden age of ancient Japanese culture known as 'Asuka Culture.' The solid scholarship of Wangin, along with the gracefully flowing Yeongsan River and Sangdaepo, symbolizes the waves of cultural exchange that crossed the sea. Here, we reaffirm that the roots of Asuka culture lie in Yeongam.
