About the festival

The Myeongnyang Battle Festival is a national defense historical and cultural festival commemorating the unprecedented Myeongnyang naval battle in world history, where Admiral Yi Sun-sin, reappointed as the Samdosugun Commander, and fishermen from Jeonra-do defeated the Japanese navy at Uldolmok on September 16, 1597. It is a representative local historical and cultural festival held annually since 2008 by Jeollanam-do, Jindo-gun, and Haenam-gun, featuring various programs such as an ICT convergence multimedia reenactment of the Myeongnyang naval battle, a maritime parade, a departure parade, and local performances. Additionally, scenic lighting is installed throughout the festival site, and programs are arranged to allow visitors to experience the historical site of the Myeongnyang Battle directly. Through this, the historical value and spirit of national defense of the Myeongnyang Battle will be widely promoted, and the historical, cultural, and tourism resources of Jindo and Haenam will be introduced together.
