About the festival
The 16th Gwangju Biennale, opening on September 5, 2026, takes its title from the last line of a poem published by Rainer Maria Rilke in 1908. In the poem, the speaker experiences a moment of transformation in their perspective while facing a broken ancient statue, realizing that they can no longer continue living as before. I must change.
