About the festival
The Jeongeupsa Cultural Festival is a regional cultural festival held with the theme of the only existing Baekje song, 'Jeongeupsa', and the love of the woman from Jeongeupsa. 'Jeongeupsa' is a song in which a wife prays to the moon for the safe return of her husband who has gone out as a merchant, and it is a Baekje song with Korean lyrics recorded in the 'Akhakgwebeom' during the Joseon Dynasty. The festival is an event to inherit the historical significance of Jeongeupsa and to inform citizens and visitors about Jeongeup's unique cultural resources. Major traditional events include the water drawing ritual in Jeonghae Village and the women's ritual honoring the spirit of the woman from Jeongeupsa. A new program for this cultural festival is the Baekje costume experience, where participants wear Baekje-era clothing and headpieces and take commemorative photos. It is a festival that introduces the folklore of Jeongeupsa and Baekje culture through traditional rituals and experiences.
