About the festival
The Gwangju Royal Pottery Festival is a celebration that reinterprets the historical value and artistic significance of royal pottery presented to the royal court during the Joseon Dynasty with a modern sensibility. In 2026, under the theme 'The Dignity of Royalty Blossoming on the Waterway: The Play of Time', it combines the dignity and tradition of royal pottery with experiential content against the backdrop of Gwangju's historical spatiality connected to the Han River's waterway. A variety of programs will be offered, including traditional pottery experiences, outdoor performances, shows capturing the sentiment of royal pottery over 500 years, and special performances by K-POP artists, providing popular entertainment that can be enjoyed by both the younger generation and families. The festival aims to create an event where people, culture, and joy come together while experiencing the history and dignity of royal pottery through various events that blend tradition and modernity.
