About the festival

The 34th Heungbu Festival is a traditional local festival held by Namwon-si, Jeonrabuk-do, themed around the classic novel Heungbujeon. It will take place from Friday, October 9, 2026, to Sunday, October 11, for three days at Gwanghallu Garden. According to Namwon-si regulations, the Heungbu Festival day is designated as Namwon Citizens' Day, and the festival, originally held on the 9th day of the 9th lunar month, has been adjusted in timing due to circumstances. The slogan 'Together with Citizens, Together with Small Business Owners' highlights the festival's feature of expanding participation from local businesses and small entrepreneurs. Gwanghallu Garden will feature the Teukhwajangteo representing Heungbu's birthplace, thatched booths selling Jiri-san agricultural specialties, and a K-Food Road where visitors can enjoy food from Namwon's small businesses. Additionally, the Heungbu Big Hit Store Challenge, linked with shops in the old downtown, and the Golden Drum Teotteu-ri, where large drums measuring 6 to 8 meters are burst, will add to the festival's attractions. Other activities include job experiences from the Joseon Dynasty, a traditional science festival, performances reinterpreting the Battle of Namwon Fortress during the Imjin War, Changgeuk Heungbujeon, the Namwon Nongak Competition, and traditional wedding experiences, establishing the festival as a stay-type event connecting Gwanghallu Garden and the old downtown through a blend of tradition and modernity.
