About the festival

The foundation of the Eumseong Pumba Festival is the life of the late Choegwi-dong, a saintly figure. Today, he is recognized as the one who became the basis for the establishment of the Flower Village, having fed beggars who could not even beg themselves while wandering around the neighborhood of Geumwang-eup Mugeuk-ri, despite having a disability himself. For this reason, his life is evaluated as that of a saint of love that no one can imitate. The legend of Pumba has been passed down in various forms. Pumba is an onomatopoeic term used in the refrain of Gakseol-i Taryeong, serving as a kind of rhythmic accompaniment. The Eumseong Pumba Festival traditionally combines the established Pumba, which has solidified as a representative of traditional peddlers, with the humanitarian spirit of the late Choegwi-dong. Although our lives today have become abundant, spiritual poverty and inequality still exist. This festival was born with the proposition that we must experience catharsis through satire and humor and heal through love and sharing. Additionally, the Eumseong Pumba Festival is a cultural festival that practices the spirit of love and sharing.
