About the festival

The 9th Sea Festival in the Heart of the City will be held for two days, from Saturday, October 24, through Sunday, October 25, around Noryangjin Fisheries Market and Noryangjin Soccer Field. Organized with the participation of Dongjak-gu, the National Federation of Fisheries Cooperatives, and Suhyeop Noryangjin Fisheries Co., Ltd., this festival is packed with programs under the theme “Noryangjin Becomes Seoul’s Sea,” where visitors can open, enjoy, create, and taste the sea for themselves. This year’s festival offers a variety of seafood dishes and hands-on activities to delight visitors’ eyes and palates. Chef Yang Seung-ho, Korea’s first master tuna chef, will perform a live butchering of a 60–80 kg whole tuna, followed by a tasting event called “Catch the Tuna (Receive the Tuna).” Visitors can learn auction hand signals from an actual Noryangjin Fisheries Market auctioneer and take part in a seafood auction to buy fresh seafood in “Today, I’m the Auction King.” There will also be food stalls run by market vendors, a direct-sales market offering specialties from regional fisheries cooperatives at low prices, and food trucks. Unique sea-themed activities for the whole family in the heart of the city have been greatly expanded. On-site activities include a shrimp-catching challenge, “A Bite in a Flash,” “Surfing in the City,” the children’s inflatable “Wave Playground,” the children’s fishing activity “Little Sea Fishing Spot,” and Noryangjin Sea Golden Bell. Nine free craft workshops, including making mood lights and sea-sunlight suncatchers, will also be available for visitors to enjoy at their own pace. A variety of live performances will keep the festival atmosphere lively over both days, including the BLUE SEA Concert, Hidden Singer LIVE, and Sea Trot LIVE. On the first day, October 24, the festival opens with “Sea Energy LIVE” by Chung-Ang University’s cheerleading squad, Hura-ssi, followed by “Hidden Singer LIVE,” featuring singers who sound even more like the originals than the originals themselves. The opening ceremony will then lead into the BLUE SEA Concert, featuring Kim Yeon-ja, Kim Hyun-jung, Im Da-un, and Ryu Won-jeong. On October 25, the festival concludes with “Once Again at Nodeul,” featuring winners of the Dongjak-gu Residents’ Singing Contest, “Nodeul Song Festival,” followed by “Sea Trot LIVE,” a lively trot show featuring Shin Seung-tae, Kim So-yu, and Hong Dan-bi, and music and the closing ceremony (SEE YOU, SEA!). The festival begins at 12:00 on October 24 (Saturday) and runs through October 25 (Sunday), with activities at each booth and the main stage. Participating businesses inside the seafood market will offer special prices on seafood during the festival, so visitors can enjoy it for less than usual.
