About the festival
Located in the Sojubang Hall of Gyeongbokgung, 'Saenggwabang' is one of the six royal kitchens responsible for the desserts and special meals of the king and queen. This place was also known by the nickname 'Saengmulbang' and is currently operated as a paid program where visitors can directly experience the royal sweets and medicinal teas enjoyed by the king based on the records of the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty. In 2026, Gyeongbokgung Saenggwabang will reinterpret the royal narratives that have been sleeping in old books in a modern way, presenting a new 'Storytelling Tea Table' that reflects the king's life and ruling philosophy. This program is designed to allow participants to experience the values of life pursued by the two kings of Joseon through taste, going beyond simply enjoying flavors. The tea table of King Yeongjo, symbolizing wisdom in longevity and moderation, embodies the aesthetics of simple yet refined flavors, while the tea table of King Sukjong, recreating the joy of splendid banquets, showcases the essence of high-class and luxurious court culture. In the moment of opening the tea box, visitors will have a special experience that awakens the five senses with the deep philosophy of the palace, traveling back 600 years in time.
