About the festival
The Jung-gu district of Seoul Special City will hold the 2026 Yi Sun-sin Festival, a special event commemorating the historical identity of General Yi Sun-sin, who was born here. A magnificent birthday celebration will unfold with a giant birthday cake featuring 481 congratulatory messages, where everyone becomes the main character. This festival consists of four areas where visitors can actively participate rather than just observe. First, at Sun-sin ROCK, a grand parade by the naval honor guard and an exciting performance by the naval promotional team will greet the audience. Alongside this, a triathlon competition to select the Iron Man Yi Sun-sin, led by local residents, and various stage performances will continuously take place. The food area, Sun-sin FIELD, will feature 20 representative restaurants from Jung-gu, Seoul, offering a rich array of delights. Sun-sin MARKET is a flea market with local merchants and artists participating, where various planned products related to General Yi Sun-sin can be found. Finally, Sun-sin PLAY is an experiential playground themed around the past, present, and future. It is filled with programs that everyone, young and old, can enjoy with their families, including making paper hats with Sun-sin Boys, creating personalized pop-up books of the War Diary, traditional calligraphy and games, Roblox Yi Sun-sin birthday party, VR horseback riding experience, and turtle ship puzzle making. Jung-gu invites all citizens to a celebration of General Yi Sun-sin's birth through a variety of programs that satisfy all five senses.
