About the festival
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the D.FESTA Small Theater Festival, which has worked to lead a better performance culture by understanding the changes in the domestic production environment and the direction of the performance market. It aims to seek new avenues for experimental and creative small theater performances. Since 2016, it has made efforts to bridge cultural gaps nationwide, not only in Seoul's Daehangno but also through exchanges between regions such as Gwangju, Dae-gu, Daejeon, and Busan, and has consistently attempted to expand its reach through cultural exchanges with overseas performance teams. As a result, this year, it has been able to visibly showcase the outcomes of its overseas cultural exchanges, including an Asia co-creation project with countries in Asia such as Sapporo and Tokyo in Japan, and a small theater festival in Tokyo. Now, to step up as an international festival, it is time to expand the biennial regional hosting of the festival and work towards the globalization of the small theater festival linked with festivals from various countries. Through the successful hosting of this 20th anniversary D.FESTA Small Theater Festival, we hope to promote excellent domestic performances abroad and also serve as a stepping stone to gauge and understand the cultural standards of other countries.
