About the festival
The '2026 Coal Mine Culture Festival', now in its first year, is a complex cultural festival held in Sabuk-eup, Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, to commemorate the opening of the M650 Museum. This festival showcases the lives of miners and the history of coal mines that led to the industrialization of South Korea through modern cultural and artistic programs. The main components of the event include a large thematic performance planned based on the narratives of miners and a linked program involving seven cities and counties in the coal industry transition area. Additionally, audience participation experience programs that allow visitors to engage with the history of coal mining will also be operated. The festival space will be centered around the newly opened M650 Museum, the Root Hall, and the 650 Street area, featuring various performances and cultural events tailored to the environment of each zone. It is an event that presents the historical background of the Sabuk area as cultural content for visitors.
