About the festival
The 96th Chunhyang Festival, boasting the deepest history and tradition in South Korea, will beautifully adorn the spring of Namwon this April. The Chunhyang Festival is a traditional cultural festival that began in 1931 during the Japanese colonial period, initiated by the citizens of Namwon to inspire national pride and honor the noble spirit of Seong Chunhyang. It is the first of its kind in South Korea's performing arts festivals and has been a historical asset that has breathed with the citizens for 96 years. The festival started with a ritual commemorating the first meeting of Chunhyang and Lee Mong-ryong during 'Dano' and has now evolved into a global cultural platform enjoyed and communicated by people worldwide. This year's festival is characterized by the serene scenery of Gwanghanru Pavilion and modern light displays. During the day, it offers the dynamic joy of traditional performances, and at night, it provides a lyrical ambiance under the romantic starlight, delivering unforgettable emotions to visitors. The 96th Chunhyang Festival, held in a space where the most Korean sentiments come alive, is a venue for harmony where tradition, modernity, and the world connect as one.
