About the festival
Since its launch in 1997, the Jeonju Hanji Culture Festival has led the industrialization and globalization of Jeonju Hanji, actively promoting the excellence of a thousand-year-old Jeonju Hanji. It also culturally reinterprets the various functions and values of Hanji, expressing the beauty and worth of Hanji, which has been with people for a long time, through the festival. The annual 'National Hanji Craft Competition' discovers Hanji works filled with the dedication and craftsmanship of artisans from across the country, contributing to the development and expansion of Hanji crafts. Additionally, the 'National Children's Hanji Art Contest' is a competition where children showcase their limitless imagination and creativity on Hanji drawing paper, helping future generations naturally engage with our unique Hanji culture and understand its value and beauty. In this way, the Jeonju Hanji Culture Festival goes beyond the inheritance and development of traditional Hanji, reinterpreting Hanji as a modern cultural content and providing a cultural and artistic space that can be enjoyed by various generations, thereby actively promoting the value of Jeonju Hanji both domestically and internationally.
