How to dispose of it
- Identify whether the receipt is thermal paper, as commonly used by shop and payment terminals.
- Keep thermal receipts out of ordinary paper recycling and put them in the local general-waste bag.
- If attached to a box or bag, remove the receipt and sort the remaining packaging by its own material.
Before you put it out
- This guidance concerns thermal paper; a document printed on ordinary office paper is not necessarily the same material.
- Keeping receipts separate as you collect them makes it easier to avoid mixing small scraps into newspapers or books.
