About the festival
Geoje Okpo Great Battle Festival is a national defense cultural arts festival held annually in mid-June to commemorate the Okpo Great Battle, a victory during the Imjin War in 1592. Through a variety of events such as the opening ceremony, ritual performance, water gun festival, drone light show, and closing fireworks show, a harmonious gathering where all generations can participate and enjoy unfolds. The representative event, the musical Okpo Naval Battle, offers an emotional experience with powerful performances by actors, a splendid stage, and realistic maritime fireworks battle scenes using ships mobilized in the actual waters off Okpo. Additionally, the victory procession is a historical performance commemorating the first victory of the Okpo Naval Battle, where one can enjoy vibrant performances including the naval military band, honor guard performance, traditional martial arts group performance, and traditional games all in one place.
