About the festival

Boardinghouse culture, part of Gongju’s educational heritage, is more than a simple form of housing; it is a precious memory preserving the learning and friendships of youth, along with the warmth of the local community. Hasuk-dong No. 1 reinterprets the history and significance of this culture for the present day, offering a variety of activities that let visitors experience and connect with the past firsthand. A nostalgic dance hall brings back the music and dancing that young people enjoyed in those days, while food and snacks evoke the comforting meals served at boardinghouses. Visitors can also relive the excitement and youthful feelings of their school days through a school uniform experience program. In this way, residents and visitors to Gongju alike can experience the local values and emotions embodied in boardinghouse culture with all five senses, and enjoy a new way to share cultural heritage that is gradually being forgotten.
