About the festival
The 65th Tongyeong Hansan Battle Festival commemorates the victory of the Hansan Battle, one of the three major battles of the Imjin War, and aims to reflect on the spirit of national defense and leadership of Admiral Yi Sun-sin. The festival takes place around the lunar date of July 8 (solar date August 14) in the Tongyeong area and features programs that vividly recreate historical stories, including the reenactment of the Battle of Hansan, the procession of the Samdosuguntongje-Temple, the departure ceremony, and the victory celebration ceremony. Additionally, it offers various content that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, including traditional cultural experiences, performances, exhibitions, marine sports, media content, and night programs, establishing itself as a festival that welcomes everyone. Based on the beautiful sea and historical cultural resources of Tongyeong, it provides a unique festival experience that blends tradition and modernity, aiming to leap forward as a global representative festival of national defense and historical reenactment in South Korea.
