About the festival
The 65th Tongyeong Hansan Battle Festival commemorates the victory of the Hansan Battle, one of the three major battles of the Imjin War, and aims to reflect on the spirit of national defense and leadership of Admiral Yi Sun-sin. This representative national defense and historical culture festival of South Korea is held around the lunar date of July 7 (solar date August 14) in the Tongyeong area, featuring programs that vividly recreate historical stories such as the reenactment of the Battle of Hansan, the procession of the Samdosuguntongje-Temple, the departure ceremony, and the victory celebration ceremony. Additionally, it offers a variety of content that can be enjoyed by all generations, including traditional cultural experiences, performances, exhibitions, marine sports, media content, and nighttime programs, establishing itself as a festival that anyone can participate in, regardless of age or gender. Based on the beautiful sea and historical cultural resources of Tongyeong, it provides a unique festival experience that blends tradition and modernity, aiming to leap forward as a global representative national defense and historical reenactment festival of South Korea.
