About the festival
First held in 2024, the Gimbap Festival began with the idea of creating a real-life Gimbap Heaven, inspired by the witty response of the MZ generation that the name Gimcheon brings to mind Gimbap Heaven. Held every October across Samyeongdaesa Park, Jikji Culture Park, and Chinhwangyeongsaengtae Park, some of Gimcheon's top tourist attractions, the Gimcheon Gimbap Festival is a leading cultural festival celebrating K-food and K-culture, bringing back the excitement of childhood picnic days with a single roll of gimbap. Visitors can sample Gimcheon's uniquely original gimbap created each year at the Gimbap Cooking Contest, along with offerings from the Gimbap Factory, Signature Monk Gimbap, local gimbap, and unusual gimbap varieties from all eight provinces—all in one place. The festival offers a variety of hands-on activities, exhibitions, performances, and play experiences centered on gimbap, including a Kkodal merchandise shop, Kkodal gimbap-making, gimbap art, and a gimbap playground. Dedicated solely to gimbap and its visitors, the Gimcheon Gimbap Festival is famous on social media as a festival with “all its vibes intact” and has established itself as a place to enjoy a special autumn picnic with gimbap.
