About the festival
The Gochang Hajeon Clam Sensory Experience Festival is an event held in Hajeon Village, a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site located in the Gochang tidal flats. Hajeon Village is the largest clam production area in the country, and the festival primarily utilizes clams, a local specialty. The Gochang tidal flats, which serve as the spatial backdrop for the festival, are recognized globally for their conservation value as pristine tidal flats. The main program includes a tidal flat experience activity where visitors can enter the vast tidal flats to harvest clams. Additionally, various cooking programs using clams and a food market will be operated at the festival site. There will also be a direct seafood market where clams can be purchased at discounted prices. Hajeon clams are in season in May, characterized by their plumpness and unique chewy texture. The festival content combines the culinary value of clams with the ecological characteristics of the tidal flats. This festival is a local seafood festival that provides visitors with opportunities for experience and consumption by combining the natural environment of the Gochang tidal flats with the fishery resources of Hajeon Village. It is an official event to promote the tidal flats and clams, which are local assets of Gochang, to the outside world and secure sales channels for seafood.
