About the festival
The Gwangju Kimchi Festival, a celebration representing Korea’s kimchi culture, continues its 33-year history this year from October 23 to October 25, a three-day event held at Gwangjucheongsa in Jeonnamgwangjutonghapteukbyeol-si. Taking place in Jeonnamgwangju, the Jongjudo-si of kimchi that has preserved its traditions and values, the Gwangju Kimchi Festival brings together the past, present, and future of kimchi in one place, from traditional kimjang culture to new kimchi content. Visitors can experience Korea’s distinctive food culture and stories through a variety of programs, including the Korea Kimchi Competition, kimchi-making activities, a kimchi market, and the Table for a Thousand (a dining space enjoyed alongside cultural performances). In particular, the festival connects local food culture, arts, and tourism content with kimchi, and is developing into a food culture festival with a distinctive Gwangju character, shaped by the participation of its citizens.
