About the festival
*The content of the festival is based on the previous year's (2025) festival details, and the 2026 festival content is currently being updated.* Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City has long been a region where the plains, mountains, fields, and sea centered around the Yeongsan River have harmoniously coexisted, benefiting from nature and establishing itself as a land of flavors. Among these, Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City kimchi is known for its rich taste and atmosphere, to the extent that it is recognized as a proper noun called Jeolla-do kimchi or Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City kimchi. Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City kimchi is characterized by the generous use of various vegetables, anchovy sauce, sweet rice porridge, sesame seeds, and other seasonings. Selecting fresh ingredients, carefully preparing them, and fermenting them using the most basic methods, while adding a personal touch, is the special recipe for Jeonnam Gwangju Integrated Special City kimchi. The Gwangju World Kimchi Festival is a venue for citizens to experience the unique food culture and traditions embedded in kimchi, and as a representative kimchi festival of South Korea, it is a celebration enjoyed by all. It can be said to be a valuable festival where transactions and promotions between kimchi producers and consumers take place.
