About the festival
Gangwonteukbyeoljachi-do Hongcheon-gun is home to the nation's only corn-specialized research institution, the 'Gangwonteukbyeoljachi-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services Corn Research Institute,' which focuses on glutinous corn research.·It is also the center for the distribution of corn seeds nationwide, accounting for about 78% of the national supply, supporting the excellence of Hongcheon glutinous corn. Various varieties with functionality and texture, such as Mibaekchal, Miheukchal, and Heukjeomchal, are continuously improved and developed, ensuring the stable production of high-quality glutinous corn.·The large temperature difference in the Hongcheon area is a natural condition that enhances the sweetness and stickiness of the corn, forming the deep flavor and chewy texture unique to Hongcheon glutinous corn. The 30th Hongcheon Glutinous Corn Festival is a regional representative agricultural specialty festival that promotes the value and excellence of Hongcheon glutinous corn.
