About the festival
The Sunchang Fermented Sauce Festival is a food culture festival held in Sunchang, the home of traditional sauces, where visitors can directly experience the value of Korean sauce culture and fermented foods such as gochujang, doenjang, and soy sauce. Celebrating its 21st edition in 2026, the festival will take place from October 15 to 18 under the theme 'The Taste of the World, Captured in Sunchang' at Sunchangjeontonggochujangminsok-Village and Sunchang Fermentation Theme Park. During the festival, various programs will be offered, including experiences, performances, exhibitions, competitions, and food related to traditional sauces and K-food. Major programs include 'Global Gochujang Making,' where both locals and foreigners participate, a parade reenacting the presentation of Sunchang gochujang to the king during the Joseon Dynasty called 'Sunchang Gochujang King Presentation Parade,' 'Global Sauce Culture School' to learn and experience Sunchang's sauce culture, and 'K-Food Experience Program' where participants can make kimchi, makgeolli, jangajji, and meju. Additionally, there will be 'Sunchang Fermentation Village 1997,' an augmented reality (AR) mission game called 'Find the Jangchu-King,' and 'Taste of the World Journey, Sauce Lounge' where visitors can enjoy sauce exhibitions, tastings, and experiences, allowing for a diverse exploration of Sunchang's sauce and fermentation culture.
